Carbon Markets & Emissions Trading Training Program
Background
Climate change is widely recognized as one of humanity’s greatest threats. International frameworks such as the UNFCCC, Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement have driven national and sub-national climate ambition, particularly in mitigation, transparency, and climate finance.
According to the IPCC AR6 Synthesis Report, human activities have caused global temperatures to rise by approximately 1.1°C above pre-industrial levels. Despite mitigation efforts, global emissions continue to grow, driven by unsustainable energy use, land-use change, and consumption patterns.
Article 6 of the Paris Agreement establishes cooperative approaches including Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs), the Sustainable Development Mechanism (SDM), and non-market approaches, positioning carbon markets as a catalyst for achieving NDCs and mobilizing investment.
