Human Rights and Climate Change
Course Overview
Welcome
From hurricanes affecting Caribbean communities to heat waves and droughts across Europe, and floods displacing people in Africa, the impacts of climate change are already affecting human rights—such as the rights to food, water, sanitation, shelter, health, personal security, and even life itself. The poorest and most vulnerable are disproportionately affected, and climate action that ignores human rights risks further violations.
This course explores how human rights obligations require the international community to take ambitious action to mitigate emissions, support adaptation, and address loss and damage. Rights-based, participatory climate action leads to more sustainable and effective outcomes. Awareness and education on human rights and climate change are critical for effective climate action.
