INTERNATIONAL TRAINING ON ENVIRONMENTAL RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES: A CITIZEN’S GUIDE
COURSE BACKGROUND
A healthy environment is fundamental to human well-being, yet environmental degradation continues to pose significant threats globally. While governments and organizations have a major role, ordinary citizens also hold powerful rights and crucial responsibilities concerning the environment. Many people, however, are unaware of these rights (such as the right to clean air or water, or to participate in environmental decisions) or how to effectively exercise them. Similarly, there’s often a lack of clear understanding about individual responsibilities in protecting the environment beyond basic actions like recycling. This gap limits citizen engagement and hinders collective efforts to safeguard our planet.
ECAS Institute, dedicated to promoting environmental stewardship and active citizenship, recognizes that empowering individuals with knowledge about their environmental rights and responsibilities is essential for fostering sustainable societies. By offering this practical “Citizen’s Guide” course, ECAS aims to bridge this knowledge gap, enabling individuals to become more informed, engaged, and effective environmental stewards. This initiative aligns with ECAS’s broader mission to strengthen environmental governance from the grassroots level and build a more environmentally conscious citizenry.
This course is specifically designed to demystify environmental law and empower everyday citizens. It will provide participants with a clear understanding of their environmental rights, the avenues available for seeking justice or participating in environmental decisions, and practical ways to fulfill their environmental responsibilities in daily life. By equipping citizens with this vital knowledge, ECAS aims to foster a more proactive and responsible public, capable of advocating for a healthy environment and contributing to a sustainable future for all.
