INTERNATIONAL TRAINING ON APPLIED ENERGY EFFICIENCY COURSE & TRAINING
COURSE BACKGROUND
With energy costs on a projected upward trajectory of 30-50% over the next two years, implementing effective energy efficiency measures is no longer just an environmental consideration but a critical business imperative. Organizations across sectors, as well as community facilities and households, face mounting cost pressures that demand proactive strategies to optimize energy use. Identifying demand and supply efficiency opportunities, evaluating their financial benefits, and developing implementable solutions are essential skills for navigating this economic landscape.
ECAS Institute offers this “Applied Energy Efficiency Course & Training” to empower individuals and organizations to strategically address rising energy prices and enhance productivity. We understand that effective energy management requires both technical knowledge and the ability to build a compelling business case.
This course goes beyond theory, taking participants through several real-life case studies to demonstrate applied solutions. Crucially, participants will be guided to identify opportunities within their own workplaces, community facilities, or homes, preparing them to develop concrete recommendations and even a draft business case for an identified energy efficiency initiative. This practical, data-driven approach ensures maximizing course outcomes and immediate applicability.
COURSE OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING
Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the sources and types of energy commonly used within various settings (workplace, community facility, home).
- Identify and overcome common barriers to energy efficiency adoption.
- Pinpoint both energy demand and supply efficiency opportunities in their respective environments.
- Develop practical solutions to improve energy efficiency and productivity.
- Evaluate the business and community benefits associated with different energy efficiency projects.
- Implement identified energy efficiency opportunities.
- Understand and interpret energy efficiency product guidelines.
- Calculate running costs and project costs for energy efficiency opportunities to establish a robust cost/benefit analysis.
- Utilize financial assessment models (e.g., Payback, IRR, NPV) for business case development.
- Employ workplace strategies to performance-manage business outcomes related to energy efficiency.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and effectively communicate energy efficiency recommendations and objectives.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
This course will help you identify demand and supply efficiency opportunities in your workplace, community facility, or home, evaluate the business benefits, and develop solutions to improve the way your organization uses energy. You will learn to:
- Identify energy consumption patterns and types within your workplace, community facility, or home.
- Recognize and address barriers that hinder energy efficiency adoption.
- Discover opportunities for both demand-side and supply-side energy efficiencies.
- Develop practical solutions for improving energy efficiency and overall productivity.
- Conduct financial assessments of energy efficiency projects, including cost/benefit analysis and using models like Payback, IRR, and NPV.
- Interpret product guidelines for energy-efficient solutions.
- Implement energy efficiency measures effectively.
- Prepare and communicate compelling recommendations for energy efficiency initiatives.
- Manage and track performance of energy efficiency outcomes.
DURATION AND PROGRAM
This is a structured training course designed to provide comprehensive insights into applied energy efficiency. Prior to the course, participants will receive a pre-course guide to prepare for discussions and learning outcomes. The program is divided into two parts, combining theoretical explanations with practical insights, case studies, group exercises, and tasks using real energy consumption data. The completion of workbooks forms part of the final assessment. Following the course, participants will have time to prepare a draft business case for an identified energy efficiency opportunity. The detailed program schedule, including specific session timings and learning activities, will be communicated upon registration.
TARGET PARTICIPANTS
This course is ideal for anyone responsible for, or interested in, energy consumption and the identification of energy savings in their workplace, community facility, or home. It provides the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to successfully identify and implement energy efficiency opportunities and achieve significant energy cost savings.
This course is especially relevant to the following positions and job functions:
- Facilities and asset managers in private and public sectors (e.g., schools, hospitals, councils)
- IT managers
- Operations managers
- Small business owners
- Property managers
- Finance and business analysts
- Procurement and supply chain managers

TRAINING STYLE
The modules will be taught through PowerPoint presentations, and lectures and will include a case study/field visit, breakout sessions, case studies and other interactive discussion components.
The course will also include a few guest speakers, both in person and via Zoom and other online learning platforms for overseas speakers. This provides useful real-world insights alongside the more theoretical aspects of the course.
The conference faculty shall consist of experienced decision makers, as well as practitioners and representatives from established educational and research institutions active around climate change, engineering and international development. Throughout the course, theoretical presentation of concepts will be moderated and more group discussions and plenary engagements will be optimized. PowerPoint presentations will be made by facilitators and resource persons, to highlight key concepts before embarking on group work.
