INTERNATIONAL TRAINING ON INTRODUCTION TO EARTH OBSERVATIONS (EOS) FOR ENERGY AND WATER MANAGEMENT
COURSE BACKGROUND
Water and energy are fundamental resources for socioeconomic development, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience. However, climate change, rapid urbanization, and population growth are intensifying water scarcity, energy demand, and resource management challenges. To address these issues, Earth Observation (EO) technologies—including satellite imagery, remote sensing, and GIS-based analytics—are increasingly being used for monitoring, forecasting, and decision-making in water and energy resource management.
Recognizing the transformative potential of EO technologies, the Environmental Capacities and Sustainability (ECAS) Institute has designed this course to equip professionals with technical knowledge, analytical skills, and policy insights on how to utilize EO tools for improving water security, energy planning, and climate adaptation strategies.
This course provides an interdisciplinary approach by integrating scientific data, geospatial technologies, and practical applications to help participants make informed, evidence-based decisions. By the end of the training, participants will be able to apply EO tools for monitoring hydrological systems, optimizing renewable energy resources, and strengthening climate resilience in the energy and water sectors.
COURSE OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAINING

- Analyze satellite-based datasets for monitoring water resources and energy infrastructure.
- Use GIS and remote sensing applications for decision-making in energy and water sectors.

TRAINING STYLE
The course adopts a practical and interactive learning approach, integrating expert-led lectures, hands-on GIS and remote sensing exercises, real-world case studies, and group discussions. Participants will engage in satellite data analysis, hydrological modeling, energy mapping, and climate risk assessments using industry-standard EO tools.
Training sessions will also include policy simulations, field-based demonstrations (where possible), and virtual study tours to explore real-world applications of EO technologies. Additionally, participants will benefit from networking opportunities with industry experts, government officials, and practitioners working at the intersection of Earth observation, climate adaptation, and sustainable resource management.
By the end of the course, participants will have the technical expertise and strategic insights to integrate EO technologies into decision-making processes, ensuring sustainable, climate-resilient energy and water management solutions.
