Climate Resilient Infrastructure Training for Rwanda Transport Development Agency Delegates – Nairobi, June 2024

In a world where climate change is reshaping the way we plan, build, and sustain infrastructure, cross-border knowledge exchange has never been more critical. From June 17th to 25th, 2024, the ECAS Institute hosted a specialized training for delegates from the Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA) on Climate Resilient Infrastructure. Held in Nairobi, the programme brought together a dedicated team of professionals eager to strengthen their technical and policy capacities in designing infrastructure that can withstand the growing threats of a changing climate.

The intensive training equipped participants with knowledge on climate risk assessment, policy frameworks, and adaptive planning, while also offering practical skills in areas like public-private partnerships, infrastructure resilience, and data-driven decision-making. Through interactive sessions, the delegates gained both theoretical and hands-on tools to apply climate-resilient solutions in their work.

A key highlight of the training was a visit to Konza Technopolis, Kenya’s iconic smart city project. The participants were taken on a guided tour that offered firsthand exposure to cutting-edge sustainability practices. From renewable energy systems and advanced waste management plants to water recycling infrastructure, the visit provided tangible examples of innovation in action. The Konza experience sparked meaningful reflection among the delegates, who expressed a deep appreciation for the opportunity to witness the possibilities of climate-smart development up close.

After the field visit, the participants were taken to Fred’s Ranch and Resort for some delicacies to enjoy a taste of the Kenyan Dishes as an addition to their experience in Kenya.

The training not only expanded the participants’ technical toolkit but also strengthened the bridge between Rwanda and Kenya in the shared pursuit of climate-resilient infrastructure. As Africa continues to confront the realities of climate vulnerability, initiatives like this underscore the importance of regional collaboration, continuous learning, and local leadership in shaping a sustainable future.

The training ended with a certificate-awarding ceremony recognizing the participants’ successful completion of the program and dedicated efforts in the training. Both ECAS Institute and RTDA representatives appreciated the collaboration and emphasized the importance of continued regional capacity building for climate-resilient infrastructure.
